of backdrops & props!

Hello once again ladies! Its the start of the workweek & im sure we're already counting down to the weekend right..! heh..

Im sure Eera Angullia needs no introduction- she's the face of NYLA and I am super indebted to her because without her NYLA would not be NYLA! If you're wondering how I got to know her....through Facebook! Alot of work went into the starting of NYLA.. from stock selection to website design and I had it all completed except for the most important part of all... the model! I spent so many nights going through random facebook accounts (great excuse for facebook stalking!) and asking friends if they had friends of friends of friends who would be keen but nothing came about. Until one fine day I chanced upon a picture of Eera on a someones FB profile. It was, as they say, lurvveee at first sight! hahahah.. I sent her a msg and the rest was history :) She's like a sister to me now and I hope she'll be  with us for the long run !

Sappiness aside, my whole paragraph above is a lead up to this announcement- We've got a new face, Rachel ! Lets all welcome her to team NYLA!! I wanted another in-house model and was back on the hunt on facebook. Eera was constantly raving about how pretty Rachel was and how modelesque she is and voila a few msges later... Rachel was onboard :) Whilst Eera is all fun & girly girl, Rachel is more high fashion with her slim tall and lanky figure & her strong facial features (gotta love her luscious lips!). Her term of endearment- Baby Rach came about because our dear girl is only 18! Am looking forward to grow NYLA in terms of  'style' cos we're more towards 'girl next door' now but i also want to dress the chic fashionista and I think Rach will look awesome in sleek blazers, pantsuits and all. So yup, Im so grateful to have the support of these two lovely ladies because I could never do the job as great as them.

Enough yakedeeyak, here's some pictures of my lovely girls!

<3 <3 <3!

And here's a shot we took to test the studio lighting....

Runway model worthy Rach :)
( I bet you're wondering whats those fuzzywuzzy thingies in the backdrop.. I'll get to that in a short while! )

In our upcoming Dalia Dress (Sunkiss)....
+ 10 points for Rach cos she likes hats! Eera's not a hat person so Im glad Rach loves floppy hats! :)

--------------

Been wanting to inject more fun into our pictures so  this week I decided to have a different backdrop! Actualy been wanting to execute it for a couple of weeks but we kept failing ! Attempt #1 : Full Balloon background- Fail: 15 white balloons gone to waste cos white balloons didnt shop up against white backdrop! Attempt #2: Starry starry nights with many many shiny stars hanging- Fail: The glitter spray that we bought (expensive summore ley!) didnt produce the shiny effect that i wanted! :( So finally this week I wanted those pompoms that you keep seeing being hung above candy buffets.... but of cos our pompoms were not as pretty as the ones you'll see in that link! A tip for those who wants to make these pompoms- do not use crepe paper! Too soft! Go for 'cotton-ish' wrapping paper that's stiffer yet still soft enough to fluff up! Crepe paper produced those black things that looks like a ball of burnt incense paper/monsters form Stephen King's 'The Langoliers' whereas the 'cotton paper' produced the fluffier orangey ones! Nvm we're improving as we go along so one day girls, one day we'll have a successful prop day :)

Some behind the scenes pictures:

The pompoms all hung up.. so sad that the black ones didnt turn out as expected but still a biiittt pretty right?

Eera wore an item from our past launch- Blake Romper (told ya we do own/wear the items on the site! :p)- which suited the background perfectly!

And a last peek at what the next launch will bring.. the black Nellie Dress that I think will be a hit, worn with an Obi belt...

Ok think I shall end this entry here.. will keep the other pictures under wraps so you'll have things to look forward to the next launch ya  :) As per normal, fastest fingers first! Till the next update/launch ladies. Take care and have a great one!

Xoxo,
NYLA

NYLA Outfits !

Hello!

Its been a long time since I've updated NYLA's blog so I guess its high time I put up a post here :) I know I've been flooding our FB page with my outfit shots and Im afraid you all will get sick of it so I'll put most of the shots here instead? Unless its regarding new stock then Im sure you would like to be kept updated so those shots will still be in FB. Also I've noticed some NYLA pieces on a few of you ladies' FB and I'd like to say.. you're rockin' 'em babes!! Would realy realy realy like to come up with a NYLA & Me scheme and put some time into featuring you gorgeous gals in this space but not sure if you girls are keen? Come on girls- dont be shy :) Be confident of yourself and of trying out different looks. Heck Im no fashionista. But trying out different outfits and playing dress up makes me happy & Im sure you feel the same too right so why not share the joy! If you've got NYLA outfits you'd like to be featured send it to us at nyla.sg@gmail.com with a short write up on your outfit and what you love about it. Everymonth I'll choose 2-3 winners who'll get $5 off their next purchase.

Im going to start the ball rolling...

OLA MAXI SKIRT

I know you've seen these pictures already but just wanted to touch more on the maxi skirts that we've been featuring on NYLA. Seems like the maxi skirts are part of fall's offerings and Im not complaining... Apart from being mother-in-law friendly (hehehe) they're also comfyyy fun to match with! Im more of a dressy chick so you'd catch me in town wearing the outfit on the left with heels but the casual look on the right is definitely growing on me. Girls if I were to share something....get yourself a black Obi belt! Im telling you it will be the best investment in a belt ever cos Obi belts (easily found in Zara, H&M, F21) are the best thing to accesories any dress/skirt outfit. It cinches your waist, giving you a defined silhoutte but is not distracting since it has no buckles etc.

Ok I digressed so yes.. Maxi skirts.. The above Ola skirts come in a deep wine red and also a forest green (as seen above). Made of smooth chiffon fully with full length lining.. Very airy breezy feeling (oh dear I realy stink at descriptions - but I hope you get what Im saying!) when you walk in it. Eera loves the red one and I just cant decide which one I like better. Comes with a belt so at $29 i think its a realy great deal. Comes in sizes too: S & M so choose what fits you best :) Go smaller for a high waisted look like me or choose medium for a comfortable hipster skirt. Either way just remember to 'swish' it like Eera in the studio shots! :p

Another maxi skirt that we had last launch that I think is an abso great buy is the Crepe Skirt. You have to buy it to know what Im talking about & the girls who have already got their hands on one will agree :)

Our first NYLA & Me Entry : Mas in the Crepe Skirt

One of our lovely NYLA ladies (hmm I have to think of  a name for us! NYLEENS? NYLAYS? hahah!) Mas, in my fav Crepe skirt! She's put her own touch to the outfit with a flutter sleeve top and a belt! We Likey! I am super super suppeerrr won over by the pink cos its so sweeeeeet. Perfect Sunday outfit! Looking great Mas :))

If you want to get your hands on a skirt- we do have the Pink left in S&M & Electric (Blue) in M.

Last outfit picture...
Freya Blazer

Its the Freya Blazer (with animal print lining!) ! Blazer's are now everyday wear and I wore this out on a windy day to tapao some McD's (as you can tell !heh). No need for stuffy white collared shirts or silk camisoles- nowadays all you need with your blazers are simple tees - I chose polka dots!. Great with skinnies or the latest weekender pants , shorts or dresses; the possibilities are endless! Black was all sold during the launch but I could try and get some backorderes if you're keen. We also have it in a sweet dusty pink thats great with jeans or white dresses....

More pictures of eveything that you see here at :www.nyla.sg under : What's available :))

More outfits coming up & do keep your photos coming pleaseee!

Presenting, Eera Angullia

Meet Eera Angullia, our model!

Eera is 163cm tall & wears size UK8 for tops & bottoms.

We love Eera because she's gorgeous and outgoing and she's tons of fun to photograph!

Humble Beginings..

Finally a proper blog!
I know some of you have read the 'blog' we had on our main page but we've finally decided to start a proper blog for Nyla because our baby deserves the best. :P lol. But seriously, we figured it'll be better to have a proper platform for all things Nyla. Nyla.sg will remain entirely as a 'store front' and this blog will serve as....a more wordy and informative site!

In case you missed out on it, here's a recap (for those of you who've read it, once more can?)..

Nyla is a product of a strong passion for clothes. Im sure all ladies out there love clothes (whether you admit it or not!) and I myself am not spared so I decided to act on this passion of mine! Trust me when I say Im not doing this primarily for the money, Im just doing something that I've always loved and wanted to do for a long time. Nyla's style would be more on the feminine/girly side - lace, embroidery, embellishments, floral but of course there'll be pieces that'll be chic, modern and fashion forward. We're really aiming to bring to you our own label, but unfortunately now's not the right time to go ahead with our plans. We're got 6 designs churning but we dont think we're ready just yet because we're new and.....its scary to have to sell XXXX pieces of the same design. I am crazy, but not crazy enough to have XXXX of the same dress for myself! We're definitely working towards it but for now, we need your support ladies. We need to know that you're keen on our design/label!

Since Nyla started, I've got alot of questions on how Nyla is pronounced. Well its... NAI-LA. If you prefer NEE-LA, go ahead- as long as you know its http://www.nyla.sg/ we realy dont mind how you pronounce it! Tomatoes potatoes! Oh and btw Nyla wasnt exactly called Nyla when we first started off, it was first Dear Sophie (too...kiddish?), Oh my Gorgeous (too..long?), Naiya (meaning: ship! too... irrelevant!) and finally it dawned uon me... NYLA *cues angelic music*. It was definitely fated and meant to be when I found out that Nyla means 'SUCCESS' in arabic! :)

At this juncture, Nyla has brought to you 22 items (some exclusively imported from as far as London and New Zealand though none are our original designs, at least not yet!) and we're happy with how we're doing thus far. We're working on our site and our photography, not forgetting sourcing for the best stock to make you ladies look your best! Please please please continue to support NYLA...we'll be ever so thankful and we'll never forget, promise :)

Sincerely,
NYLA
